FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are Federal Pacific Panels really that unsafe?

The big problem with these panels is the breakers can fail to trip in response to overcurrent, leading to electrical fires. The breakers may also fail to shut off internally even if the toggle is switched to “off.”

If I had one in my home I would make it a priority to change it out. There is a ton of information on the internet about these panels. Do some research and you too will wonder why more people are not changing them out. Many times people look at the panel and say “Hey it looks new and I have never had a problem with it, why should I spend the money to change it out”

Is aluminum wiring safe?

In one word… NO.
Many homes have been wired using aluminum wiring. If yours is one of them we recommend that an electrical contractor do a through electrical home inspection. Aluminum wire expands and contracts with usage. This can cause hot spots in the wiring that may end up causing an electrical fire in your home. Make sure when they inspect your home they have knowledge about aluminum wiring. Most contractors work in new construction and not in older existing homes.

Do we have to purchase permits for electrical work?

Anytime a contractor or home owner is doing work on a home there should be a permit at the site. Many jobs will need a permit and we will take care of that for you, its all part of the service we provide. You should never get a permit for someone to do work at your home, especially when you do not actually do the work. It can put both you and the contractor in a bad place when something goes wrong.

How come you don’t work on time and material?

We believe that all electricians should be able to be up front with their pricing. Time and material leaves you with a no idea of the actual cost for the work to be done. We use precise pricing to the penny. If it goes over we do not come back and ask for more money.
